I have crossed southern Europe from the Bosphoros to the Atlantic through Turkey, Greece, Sicily, Malta, Spain, Portugal doing travel photography and there have been visits to Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Honduras, Costa Rica and Belize.
Along the way I learned to speak Indonesian, Portugese and Spanish.

My favorite hobbies while traveling have always included climbing volcanos and spending the night on the summit - hopefully while in eruption. These climbs in Guatemala include Pacaya volcano, (7 times), Santa Maria, (3 times), Atitlan and Agua. In Indonesia I have climbed Merapi and Sibayak volcanos in Sumatra, visited Krakatoa in the Sunda Strait, climbed Papandayan and Bromo in Java, and in Bali, Mount Abang and Batur Volcano in the Batur Caldera complex as well as Agung Volcano. Next door to Bali, on the Indonesian island of Lombok, I spent the night on the the incredible Rinjani Caldera.

Along similar lines, I have hiked the Inca Trail in Peru twice, with a total of 3 visits to Machu Picchu at trail's end, spent the night high up on the 10,000 ft. caldera rim of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, and hiked 100 mi. in a week, deep into the Guatemalan jungle to visit the bulkiest and tallest of all the region's Mayan structures and one of the largest pyramidal buildings in the world, the 230 ft. tall La Danta temple at El Mirador. Other Guatemalan Mayan ruins include 3 visits to Tikal, and visits to Yaxha, El Zotz, El Peru, El Tintal, Nakbe and 2 visits each to Mexico's Palenque ruins and the Toltec remains of the famous Chichen Itza.
I once motorcyled completely around the island of Bali for a lark as well as cycling around Turkey, Thailand and 6 Greek islands. I've crossed the South American continent from coast to coast, east to west by boat, bus and train 3 times as well as boating 1000 miles up the Amazon River.
I had an apt. in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil twice for 4 months each time and I have photographed Rio's famous Carnaval as a credentialed photographer 4 times.
